As a new boiler installer, plumbing and heating engineer in Ripley, Derbyshire, we always like to make sure that our customers are satisfied with our service and that they get the best from their new boiler.
Our manufacturer's warranty gives you the peace of mind that you are covered in case of any issues for either 7 or 10 years. However, it doesn't hurt to do some straightforward things that will prolong the life of your boiler and make it run efficiently and cost effectively...
1. Have Thermostatic Radiator Valves Fitted To All Your Radiators
When you fit these valves to each of the radiators in your house, it gives you the ability to control the heat in each room of your home. So if you don't use a room very often, you may want to turn down the thermostat on that room, or if you want the temperature to be cooler in your bedroom than in your living room, then you can adjust the valves to suit.
You can even switch them off if you want to. However, this will only take the radiator temperature down to a low maximum in order to ensure that, in cold weather, your pipes can't freeze because you've turned off the radiators.
This ability to change the temperature in different rooms in your house will save you money on heating bills as well as stop your heating system from having to work as hard, thereby prolonging its life.
2. Install A Smart Thermostat
Smart thermostats go a step further than controlling your radiators individually; they learn your habits and lifestlye and adjust temperatures accordingly, meaning no wasted heating. You can also hook your Smart thermostat up to the internet, which will then allow you to control your heating from an app on your phone or tablet.
The types of functions you can control remotely vary depending on which thermostat you buy. For example, some can detect whether you're at home or not, others can integrate with the weather forecast, adjusting the temperature accordingly for if you're not there or there's bad weather on its way!
Again, by having such control over your heating you can save money on bills and extend the life of your heating system.
3. Make Sure You Get Your Boiler Serviced Every Year
Not only is it important to make sure your boiler is serviced each year in terms of being checked for safety purposes, it's also important in terms of cost savings. When a boiler is serviced, it's checked for efficiency as well as safety. Our Gas Safe plumbers will test the boiler controls, pressure settings, flues and pipework and more, ensuring you have a boiler that is safe and running properly.
It is also usually a stipulation from the boiler manufacturer that the boiler be serviced every year in order to uphold the warranty.
A boiler that's serviced every year not only saves you money on your bills by running efficiently, but an annual service will reduce the likelihood of something going wrong, thus saving you money on repairs in the long run.
